The Downies has now been cleaned up and is the least trouble in any of the pubs in Aber. A great night out and good value. Nice staff and Queuky Fred in charge. Don't listen to anyone who hasn't been there since Aug 2008 as they are out of date.

If you like your booze-fuelled antics by the quadruple then it's the place for you! Very very rarely is there trouble. Exceptional value for money. Not many pubs these days can say they've had to take their dartboard away (even on week nights) because they're so busy!

I have gone to Downies and had many an Admiral and I have never seen this so called 'bit of trouble' it is the best place in Aber for the students and locals to drink in. If you differ from this statement then don't go in. And if it was so bad why is it always packed?

Downies Vaults underwent a major refurb in about 1990 and 18 years on time has taken its toll. Downies has now become a dirty and scruffy dive that only tends to cater for students wanting to drink themselves to oblivion. The music is loud to prevent any conversation, the condition of the pub requires major expenditure and as another reviewer has said it atracts trouble. Come on Banks's pull your finger out and return some respect to this pub.

"I have to say the best pub in Aber by far. Worked there, drank there, may as well have lived there - oh that’s why I didn’t get a degree LOL. Will beat the sea cow on the Admirals one day - and live?" - Nick [May 2007]
"Good pub for lounging in for a quiet few or for visiting mid pub crawl for an Admiral. Been to lots of pubs in all different places and never really seen one like Downies before. Unique and cool. And the landlord Fred is a legend." - Danny [May 2007]
"Frankly, the place is a blast. Full of characters, and the base for the Admiral Club...which is a private members' club." - Boozemode Snr [Dec 2006]
"Not too good. I felt sad when I came in, but the 1980s jukebox even has Living On Video on it - which made up for the lack of atmosphere, full of old guys and wallies!" - Eric, Clapton [Oct 2006]
"Good pub, I welcome you all to attempt my Admiral record, set in stone at 12!" - Chris 'The Admiral' Martin [Oct 2006]

"£3.50 for an Admiral (4 vodka + Red Bull) has made it an essential for every trip we take round town." - Emma [Jun 2006]
"I love the way you can just sit down in there with one drink and enjoy watching Parkinson on a Sunday evening. If you want to avoid the rowdy groups of over 25 people then Sunday evenings or weekday early evenings are the best times to go. The atmosphere is fantastic. The best local in Aber." - Elinor [Apr 2005]
"Absolutely Lovely. Very traditional, friendly bar staff and a lovely matey welsh atmosphere all combine to make it the best pub I've ever visited!" - Evan
