Lord Beechings

Lord Beechings

Modern-style bar smartly refurbished in recent years with the standard, unremarkable open-plan interior.

Owners SA Brain claim it's a "fun student bar", but it's still popular with Aber locals from their teens to their 40s - depending on the time of day.

What a disaster!...
My God!! This place has turned utterly cr@p! They've absolutely ruined the inside - it's absolutely disgusting! It was much more in character with the clientele, before. It was dark and more importantly, PUB-LIKE. Now it's TRYING to be all poncey, but you can't keep the desperados away for long - they're back now, except looking more desperate and totally out-of-place. Who was the bright spark that thought that a re-furb would work here? We're not in cosmopolitan London - this is rural Aberystwyth for crying out loud! They were hoping for an Exodus, but no, it was and still is THEIR pub. It's amusing now, to see fresh totty behind the bar, having to put up with the drunken charmless banter and people who think they're going out for a sophisticated meal being stared at. Meanwhile, slowly but surely, the place is being trashed. Behind the facade, it's quite grimy. It's the Academy all over again......

Not frequented that often of a night time by myself. However, for brunch/lunch this is a great place to go, decent menu with good food served within ½ hour despite 4 tables ordering at once, good place for a day-time meal.

We had lunch there not long after it had been refurbished. Good food and good service. We went again earlier this year, sadly it was just cheap pub grub.

Older Comments about Lord Beechings

"Looked like a pleasant establishment so we took a drink and ordered a meal; it was about 1.30pm. To make the order easy we ordered three all day breakfasts. The girl behind the bar said there would be a half an hour wait which I thought strange as it was well after lunch and the place did not look that busy. We paid, we waited, half an hour came and went. Looking forward to our meal it eventually arrived at 2.15pm. Upon first glance the meal looked OK until on further inspection we found the beans were cold, the chips and hash brows were very oily not drained properly and the bacon was burnt. I did complain to the bar girl and she apologised and said she would have a word with the manager. Needless to say we will not be recommending this establishment to anyone ever. The worst meal I have ever had." - S Morris [Mar 2008]
"Staff are always welcoming and friendly, engaging in banter unless busy; the menu - good before - is even better now, offering an excellent choice of meals / snacks and affords the best pub-grub in town (and to wait a little for my food is, I think, a good thing as it means everything is cooked to order); good choice of drinks, including soft and hot drinks. I can pop in late afternoon and sit and feel totally relaxed. I often meet my partner there after work is over and it is a great place to unwind." - Keith Cross [Apr 2008]
"It's a nice place but it's not a patch on what it used to be, lacks atmosphere." - Anon [Feb 2007]
