The Bay (closed)

The Bay Hotel

As of June 2009 it seems that the Bay is no more. Whether you loved it or hated it, it holds some special memories for a lot of us. Rust in pieces.

A bit scruffy but still consistently popular due to cheapness! Main pub runs the the entire length of the building, and there's a decent dancefloor with all the usual mainstream music.

Normally open late till at least 1am or 2am and usually packed on Fridays and Saturdays. Especially popular with young locals and students, but attracts all sorts - a bit more 'alternative' than Pier Pressure or Why Not.

Best place to go after everywhere was closed
I still can't believe those nights out in the bay will be no more, so many good memories, met the hot melts there and were amazing. Bye byeee the Bay.

I have enjoyed many nights out in the Bay, so pleased to see a venue that does not look or feel the same as every other night club, although very scruffy it is always refreshing to see a place which is not afraid to be different, these days that is very rare. Staff were great, the only reason they would hassle you, if after a few drinks you do not know how to conduct yourself in public.

The bay, night life
I went to the bay pub one night in Aberystwyth, firstly the door men, they asked all 3 of us for I.D OK sure no problems, my friends are 30 and 32 and I am 25, LOL thats fine, it is there job after all, secondly, as we was paying for entry, the door men gave out the most disturbing vibe, I literally felt like it was interrogation, I don't know these people as I live in Manchester, but to be honest I was disgusted with the staff at this establishment, shame though as word of mouth is the best form of advertisement ? I was greatly saddened to have received such a disgusting welcome.

I got inside, and the room stank of sick, the bar was soaking wet and very stick and so was the table we sat at, there was actually grime all up the walls, later that night it was basically like a cattle market, no room to move at all, what so ever, and unfriendly vibe through out, not a nice pint neither, to much bad attitude everywhere in this place.

The Bay is a last resort for anyone that doesn't like dance music. Aberystwyth Town Council should allow other venues to stay open later so that people have more options. For anyone that doesn't wear Burberry this DIVE is the only option. If sticky floors and sweaty dance floors are your thing, this is the place to be!

A place made for the people, wonderful place! And the best of it is the lack of the stinking attitude we have all seen everywhere else. Aled seems always open to hear anyone with an idea to better the enviroment. Cheers, Bay!
And the the cheapest beer in town.

Shut up Gary, it's a really good place to go if the downstairs is open, otherwise it's just an average place. Some quality DJs too!
A few of the bouncers are t---- if you have any form of ID that isn't a driving licence though.

Utter dive! The Basement has to be seen to be believed. The scruffiest crappiest venue ever full of scruffy, crappy people! Then again, Aber's appallingly scruffy in general. Come on, make more of an effort people!
Gary - 10/04/2008 - 17:59
The upstairs dance floor is now open again.

The place you go to when you know it's time to go home. Range of music means no-one sits in the corner in a mood. Cannot believe the majority of the upstairs is now closed because of student complaining!

"Also über haunted...much fun if you have to stay after hours to clean up!" - Bay Staff [Mar 2008]
"Best place ever. End of." - Joshua Harcastle [Mar 2008]
"Sticky floors, dodgy toilets, yet you always have a good time. Dancefloor is always entertaining, but if you don't like that, there's plenty of little rooms to chill in. The basement has some really good music in at times, with a good atmosphere." - Bean [Feb 2008]
"Complete dive, stinks, can't go in without a scruffy, smelly person starting a fight with you, takes a while to get a drink. OK if in a big group." - Anon [Feb 2008]
"SO many good memories of this place - including handstands, bad dancing to cheesy alt classics, random snogs with people you'd normally (soberly) cross the street to avoid, the onslaught of probably the cheapest drinks in town, and at least one 'tactical vomiting session' per person." - Sam, Kahla and Brian the Beaver (find us there every Saturday) [Sep 2007]
"Best pub in Aber bar none. Good music, honest staff (if a little crazy...), (very) cheap and cheerful. Only wish it had more seating." - Gamezy [Jul 2007]
"I resent being called rude - we're only rude to customers who don't know how to conduct themselves in a social environment. Besides, we don't have time to sit and chat when we have 300 people trying to buy drinks at the same time. Maybe if the customers were a bit more polite and stopped waving money in our faces and abusing us for not serving them first even though they've done nothing to warrant being served before everyone else, maybe then - and just maybe - we wouldn't be so rude." - 'The Staff' [Apr 2007]
"Amazing place to go to as a student: cheap drinks, lots of people and they play a wide range of music, which means a very diverse crowd. The only problem is the staff are really rude, and it gets too hot in there. However, though it's a dump I love it!" - Anon [Apr 2007]
