Varsity
Part of the national chain, Varsity has established itself as an unmistakably student-centred bar that's gone from strength-to-strength.
Packed out to capacity many evenings, it's one of the town's student hotspots - although there's more of a mix of customers at the weekend.
By day, this is a very different venue and a reasonable place for a keenly-priced meal or a spot of people-watching, with its picture windows looking out on Terrace Road.

Great place for the young, student type with decent priced drinks with a Vcard. Food is reasonably priced for the size of the meals, once had sausage & bean baguette which was hanging off the already large plate
Can find yourself sitting in there for hours at a time. Good atmosphere at night, highly recommended.

Good pub but again ordered the garlic bread and it was so burnt it was only identifiable by its dental records. Good pre-club bar though, I like the vibe!

As previous reviewer said, garlic bread was burnt to a crisp and it took fifteen minutes to get them to change it. Expensive unless you've got a V Card, but then the same can be said about our local Varsity in Wolverhampton.

"Never get garlic bread, they always burn it no matter how many times people complain. And never order food separately if you are with friends, it never comes at the same time and everyone could have finshed their food by the time yours gets to the table. No point even venturing in if you don't have a V Card as everything is expensive without, and unless you go on a Tuesday for the cheap drinks it's a waste of a couple of quid getting one." - Anon [May 2008]
"Used to love coming here for a meal with my friends until recently, where all I had to send my food back 3 times because it wasn't what I asked for and the service was terrible." - Anon [Oct 2007]
"Great place to meet friends for food and drink. £1 party on Tuesdays, 2-for-1 on Wednesdays are always a good night out. Try it for yourself - you wont be disappointed." - Fiona Lee [Oct 2007]
"V Card is a must, making the drinks price really competitive. Good food. My friends and I practically live there." - Lisa Wall [Mar 2007]
"Knew it when it was the White Horse and a cracking pub. Was totally gutted when they created this monstrosity. Awful, awful, awful." - Pub Goer [Nov 2006]
"It's a trendy pub, and is always busy. Popular with locals and students. The food is very good quality. And you just need to know which drinks are the best value ones. The staff are good fun and are always pleasant! Good for nights out." - Joanne [Oct 2006]
"Nice place, just too expensive - it's almost £3 for 1 pint. Not a good place if you're looking for cheap drinks, and the music ain't all that." - Charlie, London [Oct 2006]
"Very rude staff, some of them were out harrasing students on campus, trying to stick stickers on them! One tried it on me with him legging it as he saw the look on my face and me throwing it back at him after tearing it off me." - Luke [Sep 2006]
