Bored in Aberystwyth?
Here are some suggestions for things to do when you've got time on your hands in Aberystwyth.
- Climb up Consti
Walk (or ride) all the way to the top of Constitution Hill, enjoy the great views of the bay and spy on people using the Camera Obscura! And if you're up to it, why not carry on to Clarach or Borth?
- Clamber around the castle
There's no point trying to pretend otherwise - there's not a lot left of the old castle! But the grounds are a nice place to spend some time on a sunny day, and what is left of the building is interesting to explore.
- Picnic on Pen Dinas
Grab some friends and climb up towards the monument on Pen Dinas. Spread out the food and drink and spend a great afternoon doing nothing!
- Call in at the Ceredigion Museum
Always worth a look, even if you think you've seen it all before, with a few interesting bits and pieces. The galleries have regular exhibitions and these are often quite worth calling into the museum for.
- Walk the Prom
Walk, run or amble along the mile-and-a-half long promenade.
- Visit the Arts Centre
It seems a long way uphill to the Arts Centre, but it's only twenty minutes' walk - or an even shorter bus ride. There's always something to see - and it's free. Browse the exhibitions and the gift shop, catch a film or just gaze out at the bay from the café.
- Do something sporty
Check out some of Aberystwyth's sports facilities.
- Go to Devil's Bridge
If the weather's fine, Devil's Bridge is great to visit. The bridges and waterfalls are always impressive and the journey there's certainly more than a little picturesque. The Vale of Rheidol Railway is the most enjoyable way to get there and isn't unreasonably priced.
- Hop on the train up the coast
For only a few pounds, you can get a ticket that gives you unlimited travel for a day touring on the trains between Aber, Machynlleth and Pwllheli on the Cambrian Line.
