National Milk Bar

National Milk Bar

The local branch of this long-standing Welsh chain. Neither exciting nor plush but still reasonably priced and friendly.

Well I like this place since it has been re-decorated and the food's really cheap. The food isn't particularly scrumptious, but worth the money and they are quick to serve. They also have a good selection of food and they always have bananas for my 9 month old son! The only thing is one of the waitresses is really moody, twice she has been rude to me, once she even called my friend moody, she didn't want me having a bowl of wedges at the coffee table and sofas, she said only snacks, but it was a snack and it was such a hassle with the buggy! Anyway my friend wasn't rude whatsoever and she had the audacity to call him moody! I think she was talking down to him because of the way he looks (hippyish) anyway, she had no right to judge and next time I will blow my top at her!

Overpriced, dirty, and the foods not great or even okay either. Not to mention the fact that the staff are more interested in gossiping than working.

Been eating here at the Aberystwyth branch on and off for the last 7 years. No decorating of any kind having been done in that time, hence soiled carpets, filthy ceiling tiles with water stains and corroding frames. Wallpaper that has been torn off the walls in various places, and wooden seats that have seen better days. The food is good, but pricey considering the dour surroundings. Staff appear unpreturbed with the conditions, and have never remarked about the state of the 'Bar'. When was the last time it was refurbished?!

Older Comments about the National Milk Bar

"Amazing that this is still in business something like 55 years since I first experienced it! Back then it would have rated at least 8 - will have to check in the next year or so." - RWT [Mar 2008]

"I worked there for 4 years. The best grub in town!" - Jeremy Charles [Sep 2006]

"The breakfasts are to die for, I just can't get enough of them. Cooked to perfection everytime; their baguettes and sandwiches are good too. Staff are very friendly and always willing to help with anything. Only negative thing that has to be said is that the place needs an update (menu, decor, etc). I would recommend a visit." - Dave [Sep 2005]

"Expensive and coffee isn't the best ever!" - Jodi

"Staff very friendly. I still remember having a hangover and traipsing over there with Alka Seltzer in hand. They gave me water AND a little spoon to break the lumps up with. Needless to say I had something to eat to repay them after that. Good food too!" - Bond
