![]() Dedicated to the history of Ceredigion and Cardiganshire, the Ceredigion Museum should not be missed. A variety of well-presented displays chronicle local life through the ages with many fascinating objects. Particular emphasis is given to agriculture, seafaring and lead-mining, but there is much more on offer besides. The diverse collection of items on display has many items donated by local people and includes a items from farm equipment to children's toys to an unnerving collection of dentistry equipment. There is a reconstruction of a 19th century Welsh cottage, and the museum is also home to the mechanism of the old town clock (pictured below) which stood at the top of Great Darkgate Street between 1856 and 1956. Still in working order, a small dial displays the time to passers by in Terrace Road below. The collection is housed in the auditorium of the old Coliseum Theatre and Cinema, which provides what is probably one of Britain's most beautiful museum interiors. The building's history is reflected in the fascinating collection of old film and theatrical memorabilia. ![]() As well as the permanent collections, there are regular temporary exhibitions on a range of topics in the auditorium, while the gallery displays touring exhibitions and local works. The museum is in Terrace Road, in the same building as the tourist information centre. Open 10am - 5pm, Monday - Saturday. Admission is free. |
