Aberystwyth Yesterday Shop
Tucked away in the backstreets around the market lies this tiny replica 1920s shop. Located at the corner of Prospect Street and Vulcan Street, it is an interesting but little-known display. A glance through the window reveals a fascinating selection of 1920s goods.
Clock Tower
Being located at the top of Great Darkgate Street, the new clock tower is hard to miss. The original clock was built in 1856, but was demolished by 1956; the mechanism is still in working order and can be seen at the Ceredigion Museum. The new clock tower was built in 2000 to mark the new millennium following much public pressure for its rebuilding: the townspeople were not going to be satisfied by the green dolphin statue proposed by the council!
Pendinas
Standing just outside Aberystwyth, this hill was once the location of an Iron Age fort. At the top now stands a monument to the Duke of Wellington, erected in 1852. The fairly gentle climb to the 374 foot summit is popular with visitors and locals, with public footpaths starting in the Penparcau area.
Plascrug Avenue
Although less than half a mile in length, Plascrug Avenue is ideal for a gentle stroll. Pleasantly shaded by trees and with a small playground, it provides a convenient route for pedestrians from the town centre to Plascrug Leisure Centre and the village of Llanbadarn Fawr on the edge of Aberystwyth.
School of Art
Situated on the hillside above Plascrug Avenue lies this attractive building. The School forms part of the University of Wales Aberystwyth but also has galleries open to the public and has a range of displays including touring exhibitions and the work of arts students. Located on Buarth Road.
